A publicist for MCA Nashville warned that such tentative bookings go on and off the schedule frequently, and this isn’t necessarily a done deal.
Team spokesman Brett Daniels would not comment about whether any concerts have been booked at the stadium.
Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck said he heard a couple of days ago that the Cowboys were talking to Strait, but he said he’s unaware of anything definite.
Cowboys officials said last year that they wanted to have a series of large concerts — possibly from different musical genres — to celebrate the $1.1 billion stadium’s opening. The venue is scheduled to be completed by June, and the Cowboys will start playing there this upcoming season.
Strait, a Texas native, has a long history of sharing a stadium with the Cowboys. He headlined the George Strait Country Music Festival in the 1990s and early 2000s, with most of those events at Texas Stadium.
Also, Strait performed with Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson at Texas Stadium in 2004 and was recorded for a live CD featuring all three.
Strait has a concert tour starting in May. On his Web site, there were no North Texas dates listed yet.
According to the schedule, his tour has open dates on the first and third weekends in June. He’s scheduled to play June 12 and 13 in Virginia and Washington D.C. and June 28 and 29 in Wisconsin.
