Most people that only wear a cowboy / cowgirl hat to concerts a few times a year might not understand the system that is used to grade the quality of hats. If you look in the band of a quality felt or straw hat you will find a marking with between 5 and 20 or sometimes more X's XXXXX XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXX The higher the number, the better the grade of hat and the longer it will last. And of course the more expensive the hat will be. The average store like Cavenders (all over Texas) carries more of the 5 X hats for the casual hat wearer. A 5X hat will last a long time if you take care of it but it won't really hold up to the rain an snow of a Colorado horseback ride. I will post a few sites on this thread with more information This company has some great hats. www.catalenahats.com/
