I might as well start a thread for those of us who want to
share our Vegas experiences... here's my account:
MY VEGAS EXPERIENCE - 2/2/08
Well, seems like you wait for months for that special day, and then you blink and it's over. I purchased those George Strait Vegas tickets back in November. I remember thinking - "is Feb. 2nd ever gonna get here?"
And now, it's Feb. 9th, the concert is over, but the memories linger. It was a special night. Seeing George Strait is always special, but this time was extra special. I met some of the nicest people who I know I will be friends with for life. I got to hear George's brand new single "I Saw God Today" first hand. It wasn't even out on radio yet. It's a beautiful song and not what I expected (in a good way). The ending was a total surprise, beautiful...
But the best part is, I was lucky enough to touch his hand twice (high-five style) and the third time, got a full hand shake. But even better than that...I had an actual conversation with him. Ok, so it was only 2 sentences, but he spoke to me...directly to me, looked me strait in the eyes and spoke to me. As I reached out to shake hands, I called his name, he looked over and I said "Thank you, George...thanks for 26 years of amazing music". He grabbed my hand, and said "ya' welcome", directly to me. I was looking strait into those beautiful emerald green eyes. The whole event took only about 10 seconds, but I swear...I felt like I was gazing into those eyes for hours. I would have fainted right there had it not been for the nice man behind me, who put his hands out to catch me.
Now if only I was in the right frame of mind I would have snapped a dozen pictures, but as it was, my hands were shaking and I could barely see thru the tears. So, the couple pictures I did mange to get looked like he was running 90 mph down the aisle, they were so blurry from my shaking hands. Oh, well...next time.
But more about the concert - George sounded better than ever. There was no hint of laryngitis (thank God and thank his wonderful doctor). His voice was as velvety smooth and sexy as ever. He was having a grait time also. He loves playing in Vegas. He was so pumped for this concert. He came out to a thunderous applause and jumped right into "Honk If You Honkytonk". He didn't give us much of a breather and he was off and running with "Ocean Front Property". He joked about the superbowl since his "Cowboys" weren't in it, he'd go for the Giants. He sang "The Fireman" next, and told us he had a new song for us to hear. The crowd went nuts. I wish I could remember the exact order of the songs, but I'm still sitting on Cloud George and my brain isn't working right. "Run" and "Amarillo By Morning" are two of my all-time favorites. I just love his voice and I love the fiddles. Gene Elders is amazing on the fiddle. It was fun to hear "The Chair" in concert again. I can't remember the last time I heard that song in concert. And "Carrying Your Love With Me" has a special meaning to me, so that was good to hear. I missed not hearing "Milk Cow Blues" and "Tulsa", but hearing "I Saw God Today" for the first time live in concert was a special treat. He sounded phenomenal, and the words are so beautiful. I cried the entire time and I'm sure there was not a dry eye in the house. This song is destined to spend at least 3-5 weeks at #1...I'm bettin on that.
During the encore when he sang "Folsom Prison Blues", he was having so much fun. He sure does love singing that song. And the Ace In The Hole band was amazing... they are an amazing band. He nailed "High Tone Woman", another amazing performance. The worst song (only because it means the end) was "The Cowboy Rides Away". That song makes me cry everytime. Llike I said, seems like it had just started and "blink" it's over! I've got a bad case of the PSCD and need another concert real soon.
I could go on and on, but will spare your eyes from anymore of my gushing about King George. Let's just say, it was the highlight of my concert experience. I will treasure those memories forever.
" MR. GEORGE STRAIT - THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!"
