I guess it all depends on what you are going to do with them and how much you want to spend.
Boots for riding are much different than boots you will wear with a pair of jeans and going out.
As far as dress boots are concerned here is what I think.
A good pair of boots should last you a lifetime and are made to be repaired and resoled.
If you plan on going out and dancing with them then you need some quality leather and soles that will give and last a long time.
Some boots look great but won't last long at all and many companies are putting their name on boots made in China. Justin has been putting there name on boots made in China and the leather is weak. I like Justin work boots and have had a pair for over 10 years but they aren't sold in a regular outlet store. Some Justin boots are still made here and you can find them on the shelves.
I find that spending a little more and buying a quality boot made in America always ends up being the wise choice and they last for years and years.
Boulet makes good boots and they come out of Canada. They fit pretty good right out of the box. They use a good quality leather and are a good buy for the price.
Lucchese on the other hand makes some heavy duty boots in several styles but they do get expensive. They may cost three times as much as a cheap pair but they will last 10 times longer than the cheap ones. You can always find a good pair of Lucchese boots on sale after Christmas.
I always add a separate insole to my boots and take them with me when I try on a new pair of boots.
If you are still growing then you might want to do the same thing so they can still be worn later on as you grow.
Think about what kind of boot you want before you go shopping. The toe style, the heel, the width and the uppers.
Many of the cheaper boots don't have leather uppers and they don't ever really get that comfortable feeling like leather does.
Take your time and look around. Some stores only carry cheap boots and the selection is poor. Other stores like Cavenders stock boots by location. Downtown Houston or San Antonio have a better selection than the stores they have located in the outer areas of the city. They have more working boots in stock because that is what the area demands.
One good thing about a pair of boots is that even if you aren't wearing them they still are a great piece of artwork so you can leave them laying around the house. Or maybe that's just me....

Nice! and great color. Nothing like a good pair of boots and some honky tonk blue jeans. I bet you are wearing them as you go online. And Britt, I know they come it the box that way but you can take another picture with them standing up.
